Got our Affidavits for Eligibility for Marriage at the American Consulate in Denpasar today. It's so close walked home along a kilometer or so of lush nurseries on both sides of Huang Tua street for about a third of the way. Katrinka's wearing her engagement ring. I proposed to her in classic form and she accepted. In our twelfth year together, seemed like a good time and place for it.
Next is a ceremony and reception and honeymoon on Gili Air (no motor vehicles) and after that registering with the government. By law both have to be the same religion to get married in Indonesia. If you have no religion here you can't get married and that's ruled as unconstitutional in the same line as same-sex marriage - in a decision that's posted. Have to be married by a priest or officiant in that religion. The most appealing Buddhist temple is on the other side of the island - where they have Vipassana retreats. It's only a couple of hours away. Going to check out three local places. Want to do that anyway. Will report back.
The ring in the image is not the one for Katrnka. Will post it later. - dc
