Fools Fall in Love

Will Johnson, a Zen buddy from 1972, who used to play lead guitar with me for fun in our spare time at 300 Page St., sent me this perfect cover of the Drifter's Fools Fall in Love which I bought as a 45 and loved back in 57. I even saw them sing it live in Fort Worth. So great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHK3OCnBmVE

Antidote to a Lullaby

This album cover with the links etc was posted on the What's New Blog recently featuring the song for Tassajara, Where the World Was Born. But it's mainly a bunch of nonZense so here it goes again.

Here's a page on the DC music site for these old recordings now remastered.

Here's the YouTube page for the album. It's also on Spotify, Apple Music, etc.

Suggest you check out Antidote to a Lullaby, a wake up song for son Kelly sung to him when he was five years old one morning. His response: It makes me sleepy.

Bali Opening Up

After two years of being somewhere between almost closed and closed, Bali is starting to open up. Foreigners still have to be vaccinated and tested and quarantine in a hotel in Jakarta first - now for three days - but it's not the week it was two months ago when Katrinka returned. We hear more planes overhead. Still just a dribble but it's slowly opening. Our beach is still almost entirely locals coming for ceremonies and in the cool late afternoon. Frequently almost empty. Places that can't hang on any longer are still closing and others with new cash and optimism opening. Will it ever be the same as it was? Hard to wish for that and, seeing so many hurting, hard not to.

Baliyuga Taken Hostage for a Day

On Friday Facebook unpublished the new Baliyuga Facebook page and put it under review. We disputed but I gave up hope right away as because I've learned there's no recourse if they make a decision. Or so I thought. For on Saturday they republished it. I gather it's because it's a business page - band pages are business pages - and apparently they pay more attention to them, take them more seriously. For one thing they try constanly to sell promotion for business pages and make zillions that way. I posted on my personal FB page about FB unpublishing the Baliyuga page and got a lot of responses. Many of them told of rediculous experiences with FB blocking, unpublishing, deleting totally innocent pages and posts. But there were a few who urged me not to give up because it was a biz page and I learned there things one can do and there are are actual real live people one can contact about such a problem. So anyway it was a big relief that it came back and it also has turned out to be a good bit of free PR garnering me sympathy like someone who got beat up by a bully.

Not incidentally, this page, Cuke nonZense, has been made mostly inactive by FB since years ago. Got a message saying it didn't follow community standards. No details. No option to dispute. It's not a biz page. And I can vouch that there was nothing unwholesome ever posted on these hallowed pages.

So here's the Baliyuga Facebook page

Another Song

from the recently released Baliyuga on the Way to Venus

This was a birthday song I wrote for myself in 2015. Since it's six years later changed a word in the song and title. Back then that word was 70. Now it's 76. Enjoy Seventy-six Times Around the Sun on Youtube (cause you don't need an app to listen to it there).

Check out our band, Baliyuga. at baliyuga.com

A Poem from Somewhere

So I finally got one of those goals from yesterday done and as for chapter 15, got a lot done on it. And started the first phone chat for a podcast in a few weeks. Cuke What's New posts are up. But now I want to go to sleep but need to prepare today's podcast, the latest piece from Tassajara Stories. No I can't do it. Yes you can. I play a game of spider that takes extra long to win. I could be almost through the podcast prep if I hadn't done that but now I'm feeling more ready for it. I can do it. No you can't. You'll keep putting it off. At times like these when I'm fighting myself and need to boost my confidence and charge into a task, I think of Edgar Guest and his famous poem. This goes back to my childhood. A favorite. Not the one with the line that goes, "It takes a heap of living, to make a house a home." Not that one but the one that goes

They said it couldn't be done
And he with a grin replied
I'll not be one to say it couldn't be done
Until I've gone and tried.
So he buckled right in
With a trace of a grin
By golly he went right to it
And he tried that thing
That "couldn't be done"
And you know what?
He couldn't do it.

Or maybe that's from Mad Magazine - I can't recall the source. - dc

A Beat Poem

Submission to a magazine for contemporary Beat Poetry

I think that I shall never see

A vegie purple as a beat

Boiled or fried or marinated

They are very good to eat

Although they can be a pain

When they leave a stubborn stain

Beats are treats and beats are swell

And do not care if I can't spell
